Circus

洪福遠 , 2003

This picture is derived from the Han Dynasty (202BC-220) brick, painting acrobatic performances. Chinese acrobatics originated in the Spring and Autumn Period(770-476BC). The earliest record is dwarf climbing pole. In the Han Dynasty, acrobatic performance developed rapidly, and its content and form were gradually enriched. In order to show off his national strength, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty held a grand acrobatic performance in Weiyang Palace when entertaining guests from the western regions, which made the guests full of praise. High altitude acrobatics is the most popular image in the Western Han Dynasty. On the one hand, the performance of high altitude acrobatics can shake people’s hearts. On the other hand, it also represents people’s good expectations for immortals from heaven. The picture is simple and dynamic, as if you can feel the thrilling of acrobatics and the vigorous and enterprising spirit of Han society.
