Fish and Dragon

洪福遠 , 1986

This is a combination pattern in traditional batik, mainly fish and dragon patterns, with rich colors and lively patterns. In the Miao culture, the fish has many children, so the fish pattern represents the reproduction of offspring and the prosperity of the family. The dragon pattern represents the origin of the Chinese nation and the supreme power of ancient emperors. In this work, the head and claws of the dragon are dragon’s, while the body and tail are fish’s. The fish and the dragon are intertwined and rich in change, which shows the concept that all things have spirit, birth and have influence on each other in Miao culture. The picture embodies the good hope of family prosperity and successful career.
