The White Tara

洪福遠 , 2002

The White Tara depicted in the picture is the embodiment of Avalokiteshvara. In Tibetan Buddhism, Green Tara and White Tara are the most popular of the 21 Taras. The White Tara is as white as snow. She has one eye on her each hand and foot. She has three eyes on her face. The eyes on her forehead can see the boundless Buddha earth in ten directions, and the other six eyes can see the six beings. In the picture, the White Tara sits on the lotus seat. She is slim and gentle. She holds the lotus in her hands, symbolizing cleanliness. White Tara can give all living beings longevity and make people grow rapidly in wisdom.
